Case: 31 March 2018
Summary
An open cellular cloud event that followed a frontal passage
Description
This was an open cell event that followed a frontal passage during the first half of this day (06 UTC). Low-level winds were moderate (10-20 kts) and from the west following the frontal passage over Graciosa island. Radar observations at the ENA main site suggested relatively intense precipitation in the cells that overpassed the ENA main site just after midday. The melting level was relatively high (2.5 km AGL), though cloud echo tops were typically observed as being 1 km above the melting level for the event.
